I can’t believe Holiday Season is approaching already. I saw a commercial for Christmas the other day and said to myself already! Well, Holiday’s mean lots of parties, food, drinks and desserts. People tend to put on a little weight during this time due to all the excess calories from huge plates and lots of pie, let alone the holiday parties & cocktails. I like this time of year as much as the next person because I get to indulge in my favorite apple pie and vanilla ice cream…mmm, mmm good!! So how can we enjoy this time of year without all the guilt that comes with it from stuffing our faces? The key word here is NORMALCY.
Why do we feel compelled to change our eating habits for 6 weeks out the year? Stuff our faces until we are a glob of human consumption lying on the couch. Is it all the savory smells coming from the houses as you drive by causing you to drool like my dog Patches? Or is it that we can indulge for 6 weeks without guilt. Or are we just greedy? Whatever the reason is Americans pack on the pounds over this six-week period then feel guilty as hell and hit the gym for a month to lose what they gained.
How about not changing any of your habits and eating normal. Same portion sizes and not skipping meals. I’m just as guilty as the next person especially on Thanksgiving. The worst thing you can do is skip breakfast and save yourself for the big dinner. Eat normal, don’t miss a meal and you will jump start your metabolism so your body treats Thanksgiving Day like any other day. Not eating breakfast doesn’t make you eat more. It will actually make you eat less by putting your body in a catabolic state, which slows down your metabolism. In fact it’s a great idea to even workout on that day because your body will continue to burn calories and you have to eat to replenish the nutrients you lost. Who doesn’t like eating on Thanksgiving.
Portion control is key. You can eat 5-6 small meals on Thanksgiving, which can equate to a whole bunch indulging of your favorite dishes. Instead of trying to fit everything you like on one plate. I thought you did curls at the gym not with your 25lbs of food on a plate the size of a flying saucer (my nephew Justin). I hope everyone has a safe, stuffed and blessed Holiday Season!!
